The Land of the Elves
People of all type live in Trudvang. Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Trolls, and more all inhabit their own pockets of land, even though there are general concentrations of the various races in different regions. For example, down in the south, there’s Soj, home of the elves. Their tale is a sad one of abandonment and betrayal. As we continue our look at the lands of Trudvang, we take a trip down south.
Soj, an island archipelago out in the Althissea, is the home of the elves. Their arrival was very dramatic, coming down out of the sky with their gods and creators, the Vanir. This was long ago, while Trudvang was young and the foundations of civilization were just barely laid. With their movements across the world, the elves and Vanir sowed the seeds of what would be many of the great forests that are across the continent today. But their home was always Soj. Here, they let nature rule unabated. The seas are whipped into a fury by mighty storms, causing the coastlines to be nothing but jagged rocks. And while there are great forests in all of Trudvang, they pale in comparison to those in Soj. So deep and thick are they that no human adventurer could ever dare to make it through without becoming hopelessly lost.
And whether they know it or not, everyone on Trudvang owes a debt to the elves and the Vanir, for they saved the world long ago. From their black pits, the dragons came pouring out, bent on making Trudvang theirs by covering it in their dragonfire. It was the elves and the Vanir that stood up to them, building armies and sending them out to war. The conflict was terrible, but the Vanir, being immune to dragonfire, were able to turn the tide. However, at the final, climactic battle, the Vanir weren’t present. The elves lined up in their battle formations and took to the field alone. Though they prevailed and sent the dragons back from whence they came, it was at a terrible cost, with many elves being turned to ash in the conflagration. When the elves sought out the Vanir to ask why they had left in the most desperate hour of need, the Vanir were simply gone, having gone back up into the sky from where they originated. Even now, they can be seen retreating away from Trudvang, their stars growing ever-dimmer.
The elves, in turn, felt lost and betrayed by the gods they once served. Along with the god’s departure, they took the elve’s immortality. Soon, the elves found themselves growing old and dying off as they had never done before. This event created a rift elven society. On one side, there were those that cursed their gods. They are the Korpikalli, or dark elves. They have vowed to never talk of the Vanir and never call upon them for aid. Then, there are the Illmalaini, or the star elves. They seek to understand just why the Vanir left, and still pray to them in the heavens, hoping for guidance about where the elven race should go.
What challenges await you when you travel to Soj in Trudvang Legends? Do you feel that the Vanir are to be cursed or revered still? Those questions are up to you to decide.
